Who We Are

Bay Area Clean Air (BACA) is a coalition of advocates working to reduce harmful air pollution from gas appliances. Gas appliances harm public health. We support strong standards to equitably and affordably transition Bay Area homes and buildings to pollution-free electric appliances for heating.

PURPOSE:

Advance a smooth, affordable, timely, and equitable implementation of the Bay Area Air District’s clean appliance standards and make the Bay Area a model for other jurisdictions.

WHAT WE DO:

We advocate for key stakeholders in the Bay Area to address the critical components of an equitable, affordable, smooth, and timely transition:

  • bring down the cost to electrify

  • make clean appliance installation simple and quick

  • bolster financial support

  • mitigate impacts on low-cost rental housing and low-income renters

  • provide high-road jobs and grow the pool of skilled workers to maintain and install clean appliances

  • improve the resilience of residents to power outages

  • ensure that Bay Area decision-makers and residents see the value of converting to clean appliances

OUR VALUES:

  • We believe the Bay Area should eliminate pollution from gas combustion that harms human health and the climate;

  • underserved communities deserve extra investment and support so they can benefit from the clean appliance transition; and

  • community-based organizations working in underserved communities should be influential in policy development and implementation.
